- Makeup Revolution: In Summary
(Brand, Cosmetics List & Products Review)
Makeup Revolution may be PETA approved and claim cruelty free, but we don’t agree.
Makeup Revolution does have a complete skincare and makeup range that is vegan, but not all of their products are vegan.
On their website they say “76% of their product range is vegan and growing”. The non-vegan products contain carmine (a red dye taken from the bodies of crushed insects) and beeswax.
Is Makeup Revolution Vegan?
We consider Makeup Revolution as not cruelty free and they will remain there until there products are 100% vegan.
Makeup Revolution is considered cruelty free by many, but we disagree. Here’s what you should know:
- They are PETA approved
- Leaping Bunny does not list Makeup Revolution when you search their approved brands database.
- The brand themselves said future products will have the Leaping Bunny stamp
- Cruelty Free means “Not tested on animals” – it doesn’t mean no animals suffered in the making of the product. Some products use materials in which animals suffered and therefore we feel its not right for Makeup Revolution to claim cruelty free.
- Cruelty Free is an unregulated term, which means any brand can say they are cruelty free, even if they test on animals! Whilst Makeup Revolution don’t test on animals, they’re not cruelty free in our opinion.
Makeup Revolution was originally owned by TAM Beauty (London) Limited, you can see their founder Adam Minto listed as the sole director here. A lot of blogs still talk about TAM, but that company went bankrupt in September 2019 and they are now called Revolution Beauty Limited as you can see here.
On their website they say:
TAM/Beauty Revolution does not own any other companies, so in effect, Makeup Revolution is just the brand name of Beauty Revolution – they are one and the same company.
Makeup Revolution does not sell products in Mainland China, so you won’t find their products in stores there.
The brand does seem like it wants to be cruelty free, so we hope the decision not to sell in China is to avoid having their products go through the mandatory government animal testing.
They do say that they ship their products to China, which we understand does not require any testing on animals to be conducted.
One thing that is concerning, is this Medium article which claims Makeup Revolution products are manufactured in China.
The fact they are made in China doesn’t mean they were tested on animals, as PETA says:
“Currently, the Chinese government requires tests on animals for all imported cosmetics and any special use cosmetics, regardless of where they were manufactured.”
Makeup Revolution were asked this question directly and in an email reply said they receive an annual declaration form from their factories confirming their products and the raw materials going into them were not tested on animals.
Again, whilst they were not tested on animals, some of the products contain carmine (colouring from crushed insects) and beeswax.
Makeup Revolution has a wide vegan product range, with more than 75% of their products being vegan.
On their website they have easy filters which let you see all their vegan products, and each product has a green V next to it for easy reference:
Helpfully, each product lists all of the ingredients too:
The products we were able to find that were vegan in July 2020 are:
The company releases new products almost weekly thanks to their “Fast Beauty Concept” – so you’ll need to check their website directly for an up to date list.

Makeup Revolution seems to be trying to do the right thing. 76% of their range is vegan and they plan on growing that.
They don’t test on animals, nor do their suppliers and they are PETA certified.
But 24% of their products that are not vegan contain animal by-products and therefore despite their “we’re cruelty-free ree” marketing, we can’t agree they are 100% cruelty-free.
